If you've been here before, you're well aware that one of my biggest pet-peeves is silly questions about my kids. Well, finally, an amazing site called The Root gave me an opportunity to rant about what it means to have so-called "black and white" twins - and I've got to admit, it felt great.
The best part is that I'm now free to move on and be neurotic about other areas of my life, so stay tuned!

Great article on the Root Meera. Now I understand your blog title. And I can only *imagine* the ignorance that you were subjected to in the Hudson Valley.
Is that a pic of your twins above? I think they look alike, but hey, what do I know, Im just a Black American, lol.

PS Whoever they are, they are cute as the dickens!
nice. intriguing how u continue to identify as African-American.
I have a friend here in Chicago, "Ebony", whom gave birth to a "White" child...She got sick of bein' labeled "Nanny" and, reluctantly, had to delve into her genealogy to come up with some "Answers"...turned out "Ebony" was actually "Creole". LOL
Lola's BLACK?! C'MON!
Hey there!
This is a great peace!!
It is so interesting to me that whites want to refer to a light-complexioned black child as "white" whenever there happens to be a twin who is not light-skinned...ANY OTHER time whites are never referring to any child with any drop of African ancestry as "white"...
If Halle Barry had been a twin and her sister had resembled Jolie Lee would Halle SUDDENLY be referred to as "white"?
The stunning ignorance of some whites is truly beyond comment.
Great post!
{thumbs up}

My brother experienced the same thing where a woman at his work said in (if you can just imagine the picture) a hushed, excited whisper, "How do they get along? You know, how do they feel knowing one is white and the other is black?" Mind you, his older son is 7 with the coloring and curls of Halle Berry and his youngest son is 5 and the color of Smokey Robinson with the thickest 'fro you ever saw. I mean, I gave the biggest eyeroll just hearing that story!
